On Foot

Being on the edge of the Royal Forest of Dean there is no shortage of beautiful walks for the keen rambler or gentle ambles for a more relaxed visitor.

Many fine restraunts and pubs are also within easy reach, for example the Wye Knot Inn is a pleasant 15 minute stroll along the river bank. Or on the other side of the river is the Saracen's Head pub which is easily reached by means of a hand pulled ferry just 50 yards from Alpine Cottages.

Golf

There are a number of golf clubs
in both Ross-On-Wye and Monmouth.

 Castles

 Goodrich Castle, "an English Castle
 on the Welsh Marches" (now
 Herefordshire), is a few miles up
 the road. Other must see castles
 include Raglan and Chepstow.

Fishing

Alpine Cottages has private fishing rights, so as long as you have a rod licence you can fish from the river bank within our grounds.  We also have an agreement which allows you to fish a stretch of river up stream from us.

Canoeing and Kayaking

Canoes and kayaks can be hired from Symonds Yat West and East.
